We, Animal Resource Center of Sheboygan, (ARCS), are dedicated to helping pets and their people, throughout Sheboygan County.
ARCS began over 4 years ago, as a group of animal lovers, unhappy with the negative happenings at our local humane society. Realizing that our efforts to bring about positive change were being stymied, it was decided to refocus our energy on keeping pets in their homes.
Born from many meetings, much research, and public input, ARCS filed its Articles of Incorporation three years ago.
ARCS held a low-cost vaccination clinic, through a local veterinary office, which allowed us to assess the needs of our local community, by the use of an exit survey. The results were clear, a low-cost spay/neuter program, was the service most needed in our community.
Our Stop Pet Overpopulation Together (SPOT) program has been a great success! So much so that we have recently revamped the program and are now offering the service to anyone, with no income limitations. Because of the overwhelming response, a small school bus has been purchased. This will allow us to transport more pets, safely and comfortably, and much more economically.
The bus has also allowed us to realize our goal of reaching a larger population with our AniMeals program, by traveling to food pantries throughout the county, to assist those that could not come to us. As a part of that goal, we decided to give up our office, and funnel the overhead monies into this program. Through AniMeals, we have quite literally, through one bag, or a few cans of food, kept pets in their loving homes, instead of being turned over to the Humane Society.
We envision "Stuff the Bus" promotions, to help supply the AniMeals program, along with greater visibility and recognition in local parades. The bus will also allow us to assist in animal hoarding situations, when large numbers of animals need to be transported to area shelters and rescues.
ARCS has been very fortunate to have a generous benefactor, who has committed to mechanical support to keep out bus on the road. we are still hoping to find a donor, or raise enough excess funds to have the bus repainted, so that it is more easily identifiable.
By teaching the public about responsible pet ownership, we can reduce the number of unwanted animals in shelters, and on the streets. We want to help people be successful with their pets!
ARCS is asking for your help to fulfill our vision, through a donation of an item to be used as a raffle prize at our upcoming brat fry, to be held at Jakum's Bar & Grill and Banquet Hall 2601 N 15th St, Sheboygan, Wisconsin 53083, on Saturday April 22nd, 11AM-6PM.
